Have you ever felt like you’re just going through the motions, wondering if there’s more to life than what you’re currently experiencing? As Christians, we know that God has a purpose for each of us, but how do we discover what that purpose is? In Jeremiah 29:11, God says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This verse reminds us that God has a purpose for each of us, and it’s a good one.
But the truth is that life can get messy and it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. But God’s purpose for our lives is like a beacon of hope, shining brightly during chaos. It’s the reason we were created, the reason we exist. Take Esther, for example. She was just a young Jewish woman living in exile, but God had a greater plan for her life. He placed her in a position of influence, and she dared to obey Him, even when it meant risking her own life. And because of her obedience, the Jewish people were saved from destruction. (Esther 4:14) That’s what happens when we align ourselves with God’s purpose – we become part of something bigger than ourselves. We become part of a story that’s unfolding, a story of redemption and hope.
So, how do we begin to know God’s purpose for our lives? It starts with seeking Him and asking Him to reveal His plans to us. As Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” It starts with reading His Word, praying, and listening for His gentle whispers in our hearts. And then, it’s about surrender. Surrendering our own plans, our own desires and our own fears. Surrendering to God’s sovereignty, trusting that He knows what’s best for us. As Luke 22:42 says, “Not my will, but yours be done.” As we surrender, we begin to see glimpses of God’s purpose for our lives. We start to understand how our passions, our talents, our experiences, and everything fits into His greater plan.
But here’s the thing, God’s purpose for our lives isn’t just about us. It’s about the people around us, the community we’re part of, the world we live in. It’s about being a light in the darkness, a beacon of hope in a world that desperately needs it. So, let’s ask God to reveal His purpose for our lives. Let’s surrender to His sovereignty, trusting that He knows what’s best for us. And let’s walk in obedience, knowing that He will guide us every step of the way. As Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
As we do, we’ll begin to live in God’s purpose, to fulfil it, and to see the incredible impact it has on the world around us.
